We translate your texts quickly and efficiently at Norway's best price.

We have authorized translators ready to perform an authorized translation for you.

Diction can help you with translation to most languages in the world.

What is an officially certified translation?

A sworn translation has been carried out by a state-authorized translator who has been issued a public translator's license, and who is thus authorized to stamp and certify with their signature that the translation is a complete and accurate representation of the source text.

Which documents require apostille?

If a Norwegian public document is to be valid for use abroad, it must be affixed with an apostille stamp.
We have authorized translators ready to perform an authorized translation for you.

Please note that it may take up to 3-4 working days before you receive an offer. Read more about why further down the page.

What is a certified translation?

A certified translation is carried out by a certified translator who has been issued a public translator's license, and who is thus authorized to stamp and confirm with their signature that the translation is a complete and accurate representation of the source text.

When is a certified translation required?

In most countries, public authorities, agencies, and institutions require that translations of official documents and certificates (see the list below for examples) be carried out by a certified translator. If you are unsure of what is required for your document, we recommend contacting the recipient of the document.

Below are examples of documents that typically must be translated by a certified translator:

company certificates, articles of association, powers of attorney, contracts, tax documents, inheritance documents, land registrations, medical certificates, death certificates, case documents, name notifications, adoption papers, marriage certificates, separation permits, divorce permits, grade transcripts, diplomas, employment certificates, course certificates, birth certificates, police certificates, etc.

Prices

A certified translation does not follow the same process as a regular translation, and we therefore need to review your document together with a translator before we can provide an offer. We are therefore unable to provide a price in advance. Please send us the document to receive a non-binding offer. In other words, our word price of €0.19 for regular translations does not apply here.

Apostille and notary public (when your document is to be used abroad)

Which documents require an apostille?

If a Norwegian public document is to be valid for use abroad, it must be affixed with an apostille stamp. Prior to the affixing of the apostille stamp, the document must be notarized. The apostille stamp is a legalization of the document and confirms that the signature of the notary public is genuine.

The County Governor's office affixes the apostille (confirms the legality of) all public documents from Norway that are translated into other languages by certified translators.

Documents to be used in the Nordic countries do not require an apostille stamp, only notarization. Read more about notarization in the next paragraph.

Which documents require notarization?

All translations that are to be legalized for use abroad must first be notarized. The notary public confirms the translator's signature, and this is done at the district court.

If your document is to be used in the Nordic countries, it must be notarized.

Summary of the ordinary legalization process

  • After you have received the completed translated document from us in the mail, the document must be confirmed by a Notary Public.
  • Thereafter, the document must be legalized (apostilled) by the County Governor's office.

Description of the process

  • You upload your document.
  • We prepare a non-binding offer for you.
  • We perform the certified translation.
  • We then send an electronic version that you approve.
  • After your confirmation, the physically stamped version is sent to your address.
  • Your document is ready for use and the affixing of an apostille if required.

Quality assurance and delivery

We receive your documents electronically via the website or by email, which we translate (after your confirmation) and send first as an electronic version. However, the certified physical translation is always sent by post, as it has a certified stamp and the translator's signature. But before we dispatch the final document to you, we send you an electronic version of the translation so that you can review and approve it before it is stamped and sent on to you.

Why does it take longer to receive an offer for a certified translation
